11월 중순, 사무실 티브이에서 무심코 흘러나온 뉴스가 있었다.

아파트 화재 소식이었다. 새벽에 불이 났고, 한 층이 전소됐다는 짧은 보도.

은호는 별생각 없이 화면을 보다가, 무심코 옆을 봤다.

태경의 얼굴이 하얗게 질려 있었다.

손에 들고 있던 서류를 놓칠 뻔했다가, 곧바로 다시 고쳐 쥐었다. 표정은 순식간에 원래대로 돌아왔다. 아무도 눈치채지 못했다. 은호만 봤다.

그날 오후 내내 태경은 말이 없었다. 점심도 거의 넘기지 못했다. 회의에서는 평소처럼 정확했지만, 물을 마시는 손끝이 미세하게 떨렸다.

은호는 아무것도 묻지 않았다. 그저 오후 내내, 태경이 앉은 자리 쪽으로 자꾸 시선이 갔다.

Eunho watched without much thought, then happened to glance to the side.

Taekyung's face had gone white.

He nearly dropped the papers in his hand, then caught them again. His expression returned to normal almost instantly. No one noticed. Only Eunho saw.

Taekyung was quiet for the rest of the afternoon. He barely touched his lunch. In the meeting he was as precise as always, but his fingertips trembled faintly when he lifted his glass.

Eunho asked nothing. He only found his eyes drifting toward Taekyung's desk, again and again, all afternoon.
