74화 날짜 칸

두 사람은 한참 그 종이를 봤다.

날짜 칸이 비어 있었다. 사유 칸도 비어 있었다. 이름만 적혀 있고, 서명도 없었다.

"이거," 은호가 말했다. "다 안 쓰셨네요."

"…네."

"왜요?"

태경이 잠깐 생각했다.

"날짜를 쓰면 정말 낼 것 같아서요."

은호는 그 말이 무슨 뜻인지 알 것 같았다.

3년 동안 이 종이는 서랍 안에 있었다. 완성되지 않은 채로. 언제든 낼 수 있지만 아직 아닌 상태로.

"어떻게 하실 거예요?"

태경이 종이를 다시 봤다.

그러곤 그걸 반으로 접었다. 한 번 더 접었다. 그리고 은호에게 내밀었다.

"버려주세요."

"…제가요?"

"네."

은호가 그 종이를 받았다. 생각보다 가벼웠다.

"제가 버리면 안 될 것 같은데요."

"그래서 부탁하는 거예요." 태경이 말했다. "제가 버리면 또 다시 쓸 수 있잖아요."

They looked at the sheet for a long time.

The date field was blank. So was the reason. Only the name was filled in, and there was no signature.

"This," Eunho said. "You didn't finish it."

"…No."

"Why not?"

Taekyung thought for a moment.

"Because writing the date would have meant I was really going to hand it in."

Eunho thought he understood.

For three years this sheet had sat in a drawer. Unfinished. Always ready to be submitted, and never quite that.

"What are you going to do with it?"

Taekyung looked at it again.

Then he folded it in half. Then again. And held it out to Eunho.

"Throw it away for me."

"…Me?"

"Yes."

Eunho took it. It was lighter than he expected.

"I don't think I should be the one."

"That's why I'm asking you," Taekyung said. "If I throw it away, I can always write another."
