73화 맨 아래 서랍

케이블타이가 끊어지는 소리가 났다.

태경이 열쇠를 손바닥에 놓고 잠깐 봤다. 1년 넘게 은호가 갖고 있던 것이었다.

"…열게요."

"네."

자물쇠가 돌아가고, 서랍이 천천히 열렸다.

안에는 서류 봉투 하나가 있었다. 그게 전부였다.

태경이 그걸 꺼냈다. 봉투는 오래돼서 모서리가 닳아 있었다.

"3년 전에 쓴 거예요."

은호는 아무 말도 하지 않았다.

태경이 봉투를 열어 종이 한 장을 꺼냈다. 위쪽에 회사 로고가 찍혀 있었다.

*사직서*

"제출 안 했어요." 태경이 말했다. "쓰고 서랍에 넣었는데, 그 뒤로 못 버렸어요."

"…왜요."

"버리면 진짜 안 그만두는 게 되니까요." 태경이 짧게 웃었다. "그때는 도망칠 데가 있어야 견딜 수 있었어요."

은호가 그 종이를 봤다. 날짜 칸이 비어 있었다.

"지금은요?"

태경이 은호를 봤다.

"…지금은 도망칠 데가 필요 없어요."

The cable tie snapped.

Taekyung set the key on his palm and looked at it for a moment. Eunho had carried it for over a year.

"…I'll open it."

"Go ahead."

The lock turned, and the drawer slid open slowly.

Inside was a single document envelope. That was all.

Taekyung took it out. It was old, the corners worn soft.

"I wrote this three years ago."

Eunho said nothing.

Taekyung opened the envelope and drew out one sheet. The company logo was printed at the top.

*Letter of Resignation*

"I never submitted it," he said. "I wrote it, put it in the drawer, and after that I couldn't throw it away."

"…Why not."

"Because throwing it away would mean I really wasn't leaving." He laughed briefly. "Back then I needed somewhere to run to."

Eunho looked at the sheet. The date field was blank.

"And now?"

Taekyung looked at him.

"…Now I don't need anywhere to run."
