46화 출국 준비

4월 셋째 주, 태경의 출국 준비가 시작됐다.

비자 서류, 항공권, 현지 숙소. 회사에서 대부분 처리했지만 본인이 해야 할 것도 있었다.

수요일 점심, 은호가 물었다.

"숙소는 정해지셨어요?"

"회사에서 3개월은 서비스드 레지던스 잡아줬어요. 그다음은 알아서."

"가보셨어요? 싱가포르."

"아니요."

"한 번도요?"

"…네."

은호는 잠깐 말을 잃었다. 한 번도 안 가본 나라에, 아는 사람 하나 없는 곳에, 혼자 가는 거였다.

"무섭지 않으세요?"

태경이 젓가락을 내려놨다.

"무서워요."

담담한 대답이었다. 그래서 더 이상했다. 이 사람이 무섭다고 말한 걸 은호는 처음 들었다.

"그런데도 가시는 거예요?"

"가야죠." 태경이 짧게 웃었다. "이번엔 타이밍이 맞아서요."

In the third week of April, preparations for Taekyung's departure began.

Visa documents, flights, accommodation. The company handled most of it, but some things were his to do.

At lunch on Wednesday, Eunho asked,

"Have you settled on a place to stay?"

"The company arranged a serviced residence for three months. After that it's on me."

"Have you been? To Singapore."

"No."

"Not once?"

"…No."

Eunho lost his words for a moment. He was going to a country he had never seen, where he knew no one, alone.

"Aren't you afraid?"

Taekyung set down his chopsticks.

"I am."

It was a plain answer. That made it stranger. It was the first time Eunho had heard him say he was afraid of anything.

"And you're still going?"

"I have to." He laughed briefly. "The timing works this time."

Eunho would remember that for a long time.
