그날 저녁, 은호가 조심스레 물었다.

"과장님이 아까 복도에서 뭐라고 하셨어요?"

태경이 화면에서 눈을 떼지 않은 채 답했다. "별말 아니에요."

"제가 찾은 거라고 하셨어요?"

이번엔 태경이 고개를 들었다. 잠깐 은호를 보다가, 다시 시선을 돌렸다.

"그건 은호 씨가 찾은 게 맞아요."

"근데 왜 말씀 안 하셨어요?"

"…말하면 은호 씨한테 화살이 가니까."

은호는 잠시 아무 말도 하지 못했다.

"제가 뭘 잘못한 건 아니잖아요."

"잘못이 있어야 화살이 가는 건 아니에요." 태경이 짧게 말했다. "이런 시기엔 특히."

그날 밤, 은호는 집에 돌아와서도 그 말이 계속 걸렸다.

무슨 시기라는 걸까. 승진? 그런데 왜, 그 말을 하는 태경의 표정이 그렇게 지쳐 보였을까.

Eunho couldn't say anything for a moment.

"But I didn't do anything wrong."

That night, back at home, the words stayed with Eunho.
