Two of the companies were in her hands.
Saint River she had gone around. Leaving that name alone cost her two months more than she had planned.
Sujin checked the account balance at each company.
Blue Anchor Capital, the Cayman Islands. Balance, about forty-three million dollars.
*So here it was.*
It was the money from five years before. Interest had made it grow a little.
There was no need to steal this money now. Sujin was the signatory, and she had the power of attorney in hand. On paper there was nothing to find fault with.
*On paper.*
What those papers were made of, Sujin knew better than anyone. One forged passport, one hired stand-in, and a signature about seventy percent like the real one.
*So in the end I rigged a table too.*
The problem was what came after.
*How do I bring this into the country.*
Send four hundred million dollars straight from the Cayman Islands account to a Korean one, and the Financial Intelligence Unit would look at it within a day.
What Dogyeong had said came back to her.
*"To bring it into the country you need a pretext, and to make that pretext you need a company with something real in it."*
That was why Jihoon had meant to use Taesan as his channel.
*So I need a company of my own.*
That same day Sujin began the procedure to set up a **corporation**.
> **[Registration of Incorporation]**
>
> | Item | Details |
> |---|---|
> | Company name | Reset Partners Co., Ltd. |
> | CEO | Lee Sujin |
> | Business purpose | Management consulting, investment advisory |
> | Capital | 50 million won |
She kept the capital to a minimum. Building a large company from the start would only draw the eye.
Now all this small company had to do was win a huge service contract from abroad.
Over two months Sujin put the contracts together.
> **[Structure of the Service Contract]**
>
> | Stage | Content | Amount |
> |---|---|---|
> | Stage 1 | Feasibility study on entering the Asian market | 12 billion won |
> | Stage 2 | Advice on local partnerships | 15 billion won |
> | Stage 3 | Due diligence and valuation of an acquisition target | 21 billion won |
The structure ran like this: Blue Anchor Capital, weighing an entry into the Korean market, puts the advisory work out to a consulting firm in Korea.
For every stage Sujin wrote a real report. Market data, industry **analysis**, even a list of acquisition candidates. It was in the same form as the papers she used to make in the Taesan planning office five years before.
*A report this good is worth the price on it.*
Nobody would ever read the reports, of course. But when the bank asked for documents, she had to have something to hand over.
She signed the contracts. The signature of the client and the signature of the **contractor** both came out of Sujin's hand.

The day after the first transfer of twelve billion won came in, the bank called.
Sujin had expected it, so she was not thrown. She submitted every document they asked for.
The reviewer in charge dug into number two.
"We cannot confirm the **beneficial** owner of the client."
*So it starts here.*
Sujin did not change her expression.
"All three directors are on the register."
"Not the directors on paper. The one who actually controls it."
"The shares are split thirty-three percent each. There is no single controlling party in that structure."
"That is how it reads on paper."
The reviewer set the pen down.
"You were given signing authority for that company by proxy. The person who can move the client's funds is the head of the contractor. A structure like this is the first thing we look at."
Sujin looked at the reviewer for a moment.
*I knew that was coming.*
Half of what she had learned in five years was the answer to a question like this.
"The authority was given contract by contract. It is not a general power of attorney. I will give you a copy of the power of attorney."
"..."
"And if you think this deal is a problem, report it as a suspicious **transaction** under the anti-money-laundering act. That is your procedure, and I will take all of it."
The reviewer said nothing for a moment.
"You have a criminal record as well, I see."
"Yes. Five years served, out last year. Forgery of private documents, and embezzlement."
Sujin said it before the reviewer could.
"Put that into your review too. But if you are going to put it in, then go through the papers to the end as well. Whatever you need, I will give you."
The reviewer looked at Sujin for a moment, then turned back through the file.
On her way out of the meeting room, Sujin let out a short laugh.
*Whatever you need, I will give you. Listen to me.*
She was the only person in that building who knew that every one of those papers had come out of her own hand.
*So here I am, doing this again.*
The review took two weeks.
> **[Notice of Review Result]**
>
> | Item | Details |
> |---|---|
> | Subject | Receipt of overseas service fees (first transfer) |

On the day the approval came through, Sujin sat alone in the office.
The second and third transfers went far more easily. The road had been opened once already.
> **[Final Transfer Status]**

> | Transfer | Amount | Status |
> |---|---|---|
> | First | 12 billion won | Done |
> | Second | 15 billion won | Done |
> | Third | 21 billion won | Done |
> | Total | 48 billion won | — |
It had taken four months.
Even looking at the number on the screen, Sujin felt very little.
Five years before, this money had broken her life. And now that same money was in her hands, and she was not glad.
*This is only a tool.*
Sujin closed the laptop.
At that same hour, Taesan Group headquarters.
Jihoon checked the balance once every two months. Last time there had been nothing wrong. The number had been sitting there just as it was.
Control had already passed over by then, but the money was still in place.
At his laptop, Jihoon was pressing the refresh button for the third time.
The balance of the Blue Anchor Capital account. On the screen were four digits, and nothing more.
"...What. What is this."
Jihoon called the registered agent's office. After several rings someone picked up.
"There is something I need to check about Blue Anchor Capital."
"May I ask who is calling?"
"...What do you mean, who. I am the beneficial owner."
"I am sorry, but according to our records the signatory for that company is registered as someone else. The change of CEO on the register was completed this past June."
The strength went out of Jihoon's hand.
"Under whose name."
The agent looked it up for a moment.
"The authorized proxy is a national of the Republic of Korea, a Ms. Lee Sujin."
No sound at all came from the other end of the line.
A room without a window.
Moyeon was counting the lines cut into the wall.
> **[What Moyeon Counts]**
>
> | Item | Count |

It was the sixty-eighth month.
Since last year the tray had come only once a day. She was never told why. There was no one to ask, either.
Once a month, papers came in under the door.
If she signed them with the pen that came in with them and pushed them back out, that day there was one more side dish. What the papers were, she had stopped reading long ago.
*Why are my hands shaking like this.*
Moyeon finished the signature and looked down at her hand.
The line had not come out straight. Last year and the year before it had gone that way a little, but this time it was worse.
*Keep on like this and one day I will not even be able to write my own name.*
Moyeon pushed the papers back out under the door and turned toward the wall again.
She scratched at the wall with a fingernail.
It was a place already worn into a groove by hundreds of carvings. She drew over it again.
*Sujin.*
