28화 새벽빛

새벽 다섯 시가 조금 넘었을 때, 마지막 파일이 저장됐다.

두 사람은 한동안 아무 말도 하지 않았다. 화면에서 눈을 떼자 사무실 창밖이 붉게 물들고 있었다.

"…해 뜨네요." 은호가 말했다.

태경이 고개를 돌려 창밖을 봤다. 밤을 꼬박 새운 얼굴이었다.

두 사람은 나란히 앉아 한참 그 풍경을 봤다.

"우리, 꽤 잘 맞는 팀인 것 같아요." 은호가 문득 말했다.

태경은 대답하지 않았다. 하지만 입가에 아주 옅은 미소가 걸려 있었다.

은호는 그 미소를 놓치지 않고 마음속 깊이 담아두었다.

그리고 그때 처음으로, 자기 마음에 이름을 붙일 뻔했다. 붙이지는 않았다. 아직은.

"밥 먹으러 갈래요?" 태경이 물었다.

"이 시간에요?"

"근처에 새벽까지 하는 데 있어요." 태경이 자리에서 일어났다. "밤새우고 나면 뭐라도 먹어야 해요."

"그거 경험에서 나온 말 같은데요."

"…네."

두 사람은 아무도 없는 거리를 나란히 걸었다. 겨울 새벽 공기가 찼는데, 이상하게 춥지 않았다.

A little past five in the morning, the last file saved.

Neither of them spoke for a while. When they looked away from their screens, the sky outside the office window was turning red.

"…The sun's coming up," Eunho said.

Taekyung turned to look. His face showed a night without sleep.

The two of them sat side by side and watched for a long moment.

"I think we make a pretty good team," Eunho said suddenly.

Taekyung didn't answer. But there was the faintest smile at the corner of his mouth.

Eunho caught that smile and kept it.

And in that moment, for the first time, he nearly gave his feeling a name. He didn't. Not yet.

"Do you want to eat?" Taekyung asked.

"At this hour?"

"There's a place nearby that's open all night." He stood up. "You have to eat something after staying up."

"That sounds like it comes from experience."

"…It does."

They walked side by side through empty streets. The winter dawn air was cold, and strangely, he didn't feel cold at all.
