D-Day, 오전 여덟 시.

D-Day, eight in the morning.

Sujin arrived at the penthouse, her face showing that she had not slept at all that night.

In her hand, there was nothing but a briefcase.

> **[Today's Schedule — What Jihoon Told Her]**
>
> | Time | Content |
> |---|---|
> | 08:30 | Move to the airport |
> | 09:40 | Arrive at the VIP lounge |
> | 11:00 | Final approval of the fund transfer |
> | 11:40 | Departure |

Moyeon had already finished getting ready. A neat outfit, one small travel bag.

*That's all the luggage she has.*

Sujin looked at that bag. It was far too small for someone leaving a house she had lived in her whole life.

*There was nothing in that house worth taking.*

"You didn't sleep, did you?"

Moyeon asked, looking at Sujin's face.

"I had some things to take care of."

Sujin answered shortly. The marks of a night spent running around were still there under her eyes.

Deep inside the bag was a set of passports she had rushed to get before dawn. It was something she had pulled together in a matter of hours, calling in every back-alley contact she had. She had paid whatever price they asked. What was left of her money was not much.

*There's really no turning back now.*

A black sedan headed for Incheon Airport. The two of them sat side by side in the back seat.

Outside the window, the city rushed by.

Sujin took the sight in, breathing slow and steady.

*Once we're in the lounge — the moment the transfer is approved, that's when I tell her.*

It was a route she had run through in her head, again and again.

Eleven o'clock. The short gap while Jihoon checked the approval screen. That was when she would take this woman's hand and head for a different gate.

*The 3:40 flight. Twelve minutes on foot from the lounge to the gate.*

The math was already done. All that was left was to act.

"Are you nervous?"

Moyeon asked.

"A little."

Sujin answered honestly.

Moyeon reached out and took Sujin's hand. Their fingers slid together and interlaced, naturally.

Sujin held that hand in return and smiled faintly.

*This is that hand.*

It was the hand she had seen on a screen, the day they first met. A hand without a single **callus**. A hand that looked like it would break if she held it too hard.

Now she was holding that same hand.

"Everything is going to be fine."

There was certainty in Sujin's voice.

It was not a lie. It was the first real promise she had ever made.

Moyeon pretended to look out the window and gripped Sujin's hand a little tighter. Sujin felt the tremor in those fingertips and thought it was nothing but nerves.

Incheon Airport VIP Lounge.

As Sujin and Moyeon stepped in, a staff member showed them in politely. It was a wide, quiet space.

Jihoon had not arrived yet.

Sujin checked her watch. Ten o'clock exactly.

*One hour left.*

Sujin checked inside her bag. A set of passports, and two plane tickets. Departing at 3:40 in the afternoon.

Her fingertips trembled, just slightly.

*Don't be nervous. It shows.*

Sujin ordered a cup of coffee. Not to drink it, but because holding something in her hands seemed like it would help with the trembling.

Moyeon sat by the window, watching the runway.

Sujin looked at her profile.

*I wonder what she's thinking.*

She would find out soon. In one hour, Sujin planned to tell her everything — about Jihoon, about the fifty billion won, and about who Sujin herself really was.

*She'll **curse** me out for this.*

She was ready for that. Moyeon was a person she had deceived for eight months. It was easy to guess how Moyeon would look at her once she heard it all.

*Still, I have to get her out safe first.*

Sujin set the coffee cup down.

She checked her watch. Three minutes past ten.

"Managing Director."

Sujin called out, low.

*I can't wait any longer.*

She had no confidence she could wait a full hour. It felt like now was the time to say it.

"…Yes?"

Moyeon turned her head.

"There's something I need to tell you."

Sujin reached a hand toward her bag. Her face had gone **stiff**. It was the face of someone who had made up her mind about something big.

That was when it happened.

The lounge entrance grew loud and noisy.

Sujin's hand stopped over the bag.

It was not Jihoon.

They were investigators from the prosecutor's office. They strode in, flashing their IDs.

"Ms. Lee Sujin."

One investigator stepped closer and said.

Sujin's face went stiff in an instant.

*How did they know?*

Sujin's mind raced. She had never revealed this route to Jihoon, or to anyone else.

*Wait, why didn't Jihoon even come in the first place?*

The approval was his **authority** alone. Without him here, nothing could move forward at all.

Without thinking, Sujin pulled Moyeon behind her, shielding Moyeon with her own body.

"What is this about?"

Sujin asked, forcing herself to stay calm. But the end of her voice trembled, just slightly.

The investigators slowly closed in around the two of them. The other guests in the lounge began to **stir**.

Standing behind Sujin, Moyeon said nothing at all.

Sujin did not notice that silence.

Inside the bag were the passports and the two plane tickets — she had never gotten the chance to take them out.
